English Language Unit 2 - How to revise

  • Look through your yellow book at the class notes we made
  • Revise language devices and make sure you can use them in your own writing
  • Revise the different rules for letter writing (formal and informal), articles, speeches, reports, reviews, leaflets to ensure you get marks for setting your text out accurately
  • Buy a copy of WJEC revision guide and work through the activities
  • Go on BBC Bitesize and complete the writing activities and tests
  • Download and print off past Unit 2 papers (H for Higher tier) and complete them timing yourself 1 hour

Unseen poetry - how to revise


  • Re-read your class notes from Mrs Abraham's lessons
  • Revise poetic devices here
  • Go to WJEC site and look at the past papers (Unit 1 Higher Tier)
  • Print out the unseen poems and annotate the meaning and poetic devices
  • Complete past essays in timed conditions (1 hour)
  • Self assess using the mark scheme
  • Send essays to me via my school email address

    • Go on BBC Bitesize to revise character, plot, themes and the sample question (remember that context is not relevant for our exam)
    • Go to WJEC site and look at the past papers (Unit 2A Higher Tier)
    • Print out the extracts for Heroes and annotate the mood and atmosphere
    • Answer the extract questions (10 marks)
    • Plan answers for the essay question (20 marks)
    • Complete past essays in timed conditions (40 mins)

    The Exam Dates

    English Literature exams
    20th May am = Unit 1 (Of Mice and Men and Unseen poetry) - 2 hours
    22nd May pm = Unit 2 (Heroes and An Inspector Calls) - 2 hours


    English Language exams
    3rd June am = Unit 1 (Reading paper) 1 hour
                            Unit 2 (Writing paper) 1 hour
